Censoring the census

Sigh… apparently my turn came up again for special attention from the USofA Census Bureau.

I received bonus letters in the mail, phone calls, Agent Smith visits and, today a FEDEX overnight letter soliciting my participation in their extra-curricular data mining program.

Their constitutional mandate is to count the number of people in each household within the borders of our country once every decade. All else is what our Army calls “mission creep”, Libertarians call “government over-reach” and computer geeks call “data mining”.

Regardless of the title, I am not keen on contributing to their dossier […]

Communications Basics

Two-way radio communications is a tremendous subject that can and does carry people in many directions. Certainly among the most important are field communications to and from tactical and reconnaissance teams, particularly with some semblance of security or privacy to the information thereby exchanged.

Particularly well suited to teaching this fine art is NC Scout. He recently published a book on the subject: The Guerrilla’s Guide To The Baofeng Radio, which I recommend and am buying myself. He also has a web page covering a whole lot more range. I share the outline below, but encourage you to go […]

Guerrilla’s Guide To 2-Way Radio

For my heading, I purposefully modified NC Scout’s bestselling book title that I am discussing in this post. The Guerrilla’s Guide To The Baofeng Radio goes far beyond the make/model amateur radio he recommends in it.

I and a fellow active licensed radio operator (HAM) took a local class from him a few years ago. It was extremely informative and valuable. I expect this book to have much of what we learned in that class, and quite a bit more packed into it.

I have ordered my own copy, so this is a recommendation in advance of being […]

being thankful

Among the things I am thankful for is that the manipulators have not messed up the language and culture of Thanksgiving Day. It remains on Thursday and is still widely celebrated as a day with families coast-to-coast gathering and giving thanks for what they do have.

My wife and I have now crested 20 years together and the team is holding up well, giving both of us comfort, joy, peace, support and happiness.

Though many have extolled the virtues of unpalatable yams, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie, there is nobody forcing me to gag them down… and so […]

Light Up The Firehalls – May 2022

For several months now the Corvallis American Legion amateur radio club subsection has been operating field exercises from various volunteer fire department firehalls throughout our county – the area we fondly call “The Bitterroot”.

Our long-term goal for this program is for KG7SPL to be a backup communication service for the volunteer fire departments of Ravalli County.

The VFDs are the core of emergency response in The Bitterroot. They are located in every area, have agreed-upon coverage maps and can muster 20 or more active, skilled volunteers in a matter of minutes.

Our route to providing […]

Alert The “Vaccine” Is a Bioweapon – 5 Doctors Testify

Mainstream media, mainstream medical, big pharma, all government … let’s just call them “the usual suspects” do not want you to watch this video.

It is crucial to your health and those around you that you do indeed watch it. I absolutely guarantee it will be worth it.

I have another related one I will share at Bitterroot Bugle, but not now. I do not want to distract from this one in any way. I’ll put it up tomorrow. Watch this one first and foremost. The other one is short and related.

Below I share the entire article […]

operating on Farmer Time

Today is the biannual celebration of control our overlords wield over details of our lives. They remind us twice a year that even little things are within their power.

For absolutely NO GOOD REASON, they send us scurrying around our houses, shops and vehicles resetting every clock and timer therein. It is just a little jab, not like they are starving or poisoning us … with that poke anyway.

I am approaching the mark where half of my life will have been spent self-employed. When you do not report for work at a time fixed by others, the […]

be somebody

Our little road has some newcomers somewhere up the far end who must have lived on a freeway in their past life. They are blowing by my driveway at 50-60 miles per hour.

As many rural roads do, this one has driveways all along its length meaning that high speed drivers create a high risk of collision with people pulling out onto the road.

One neighbor made their situation worse by putting up a privacy fence such that they are on the road before able to see if anyone is coming their way.

This will not end […]

Stone Soup Kitchen

TEOTWAWKI, The End Of The World As We Know It is upon us. We are in the early stages, but the normal we had a year ago will not return in our lifetimes. We had a warning in Spring and have been granted a short reprieve, but it would be foolhardy to squander the next month.

Every analysis I read and see indicates The Change will get worse, soon… much, much worse, and frightfully soon. I share much of that at this website and will continue to do so.

Meanwhile, most of us agree that we have at […]

Happy Independence Day

Renaming it “4th of July” is not merely laziness. Of course it is the 4th on your calendar, but it is a celebration representing some brave fighters’ Declaration of Independence from a powerful parasitic class of people who had demonstrated a monopoly on violence and oppression.

The patriots won a round. The ruling elite had to reorganize. It took a hundred years and another major military war that the freedom fighters lost… not by much, mind you, but they did lose. A long methodical decline in liberty followed from then to now.

I just ask you today to spend […]

comms plans for Darby Dog Derby

The 2020 Bitterroot dogsled race weekend is coming up. I have the two-way-radio support plan mapped out, radios programmed, testing complete, batteries all charged up … I think we are as ready as we can get.

For more details about the weekend, the participants and the races, go to The Bitterroot Mushers website.

Each year we learn more, adding refinements to patch holes as we find them. Ideally we have 8 checkpoints with a checkpoint worker and a radio operator at each. That’s a bit dreamy as the last couple years we are lucky to have one person […]

final day of registration for ham class is Friday

This a repeat of my previous announcement. There is one more day of online registration for Darby Adult Ed classes. We stand ONE STUDENT SHORT of having enough to make it happen.

I am bringing another amateur radio operator licensing class to Darby, Montana via the Darby Adult Education program in its Spring 2020 schedule. I have not keept track, but think I have personally assisted 40 or 50 people to earning their FCC licenses through my study groups in the Darby library.

The snide saying goes, “Those who CAN, DO. Those who cannot, TEACH”. I’m okay wearing […]
