what I’ve been up to

concrete apron for shop entrance

I was not sure, but suspected I would enjoy having a cement mixer to complete little odds’n’ends concrete jobs around the homestead. Concrete work is notoriously physically demanding … that’s otherwise known as Hard Work. But I imagined doing little bits at a time at an old man pace. How hard could two or three batches in a high-quality small-batch mixer be?

I know, I know, questions like that often bite you in the sitter-downer.

However, the pleasure is all mine. I AM able to get little jobs done without abusing overly […]

social media’s social disease

The late August headline was quite public; the subject almost public. The big players seem a bit confused about their popularity, assuming THEY OWN the little people who use their platforms.

Facebook, Google and Twitter execs are holding a secret meeting in San Francisco to discuss ways to prevent meddling in 2018 elections

Executives from Silicon Valley’s top tech companies will meet on Friday to discuss how to prevent meddling on their platforms during the 2018 midterm elections.

Facebook invited a dozen firms to convene at Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco, according to BuzzFeed News, which obtained an email […]

President proclaims September National Preparedness Month

When the President Of The United States (POTUS) orders bombs to be dropped on Dresden, Tokyo, Baghdad or other places it is popular to say that he is privy to information from the CIA, NSA, military intelligence, FBI and myriad other sources. What are we to think when POTUS tells YOU to stock up on essentials and prepare for unknown emergencies?

… this month?

Maybe it is a good idea to do just that. As long-term visitors to this […]

shortage of posts

I built a list of projects I want completed before winter sets in. Most have my name attached to them. A few need to be hired out.

Smart people in the area know that frozen ground, snow, and temperatures that are uncomfortable for outdoor work are coming soon. Hot days and high fire danger changes quickly in another month or so to WINTER.

That means also that hired help is hard to come by… You gotta make hay when the sun shines. Thus, most of what I want completed before winter will be done by me … or […]

motorhome winterizing tarp support

We are somewhat new to motorhome ownership, but have learned that in cold winter country it is best to not let moisture reside on the roof through thaw and freeze cycles. These wreck stuff.

Not having a motorhome-sized barn means we need a Plan B. I engineered a teepee to hold the tarp up off the roof and overhang a foot on each side.

I only took this project part-way as I am not sure yet if my wife is keeping this or selling our Leprechaun. So I designed, but have not purchased components nor built it […]
