Tor – what for?

Wondoze Exploder is still the big dog in Internet browsing tools. Mozilla Firefox escapes some of its more onerous aspects, and is a strong second. Firefox adds a modicum of resistance to The Great Database accumulating everything there is to know about everybody they wish to control – roughly everybody.

The best computer brains on the planet include many who are less than in love with Big Brother. They are freedom of thought’s friends. Somewhere much lower on that food chain are those who have sold their souls to The Man … the programming prostitutes.

Fortunately, the A team is on our side.

You do, of course, have to do your part.

That brings me back to Internet browsing… and Tor.

I will simply quote two paragraphs from the website linked above.

What is Tor?

Tor is free software and an open network that helps you defend against traffic analysis, a form of network surveillance that threatens personal freedom and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and state security.

Why Anonymity Matters

Tor protects you by bouncing your communications around a distributed network of relays run by volunteers all around the world: it prevents somebody watching your Internet connection from learning what sites you visit, and it prevents the sites you visit from learning your physical location.
.

It is fascinating to me that they can and did do this… and ever so cool.

If you have withdrawn permission for, and quit facilitating The Cloud from gathering everything it can about you, if you no longer invite Microsoft or Apple into every aspect of your life, if you have begun to resist their ownership of everything there is to know about you … then you may be ready for this step.

Check out Tor.

A closing quote from the torproject.org website:

Who Uses Tor?

Normal People

Family & Friends

People like you and your family use Tor to protect themselves, their children, and their dignity while using the Internet.

As I was working up this post, the little poetry bit that runs from 01:00 – 02:10 in this Moody Blues album came to mind. I had it memorized word-for-word years ago, and it still comes to mind every once in a while.

I would like to think “It riles them to believe you perceive the web they weave”, but I cannot allow myself to care what they believe. Nevertheless, I DO perceive the web they weave.

I am re-listening to the album as I write.
08:02-08:40 is really quite good as well.

Heck, I am enjoying the whole thing.
Maybe you will too.
Give it a listen.
