Ham Jam and String Fest

The Bitterroot Amateur Radio Club (BARC) and its members operate several radio repeaters in the Bitterroot. These enable people with walkie-talkies, mobile and home radios to accomplish two-way communication over a wide area from Darby to Missoula and beyond.

While the club members have the ability and willingness to expand the repeater network, they are expensive to set up, costing significantly over $1,000 each for reliable off-grid mountain-top units that can do the job.

This Ham Jam and String Fest is an attempt to attract donations that might extend the network of repeaters through Conner, up the West […]

emergencies can happen

3 Types of Emergencies That Could Happen to Anyone

Maybe you’re brand new to prepping and not sure where to start. Maybe you aren’t really interested in emergency preparedness but your well-meaning in-laws keep sending you links to websites about the topic. Maybe you go to those websites and you see so much doom and gloom that you immediately exit. Maybe you say to yourself, “Holy cow, no! I’m not one of those crazy Doomsday Preppers!” (Maybe you’re the in-law sending the articles!)

If any of the above apply, then this post is for you. It’s chock-full of […]

when your world gets ugly

This was supposedly translated from the speaker’s native language into French (by Russian translators) before being translated to English. Some things, especially the terror of war, are never lost in translation:

I am from Bosnia. You know, between 1992 and 1995, it was hell. For one year, I lived and survived in a city with 6,000 people without water, electricity, gasoline, medical help, civil defense, distribution service, any kind of traditional service or centralized rule.

Our city was blockaded by the army; and for one year, life in the city turned into total crap. We had no army, no […]

do it yourself salve

An All Purpose, All Natural

Ointment and Carrier Oil

from Backdoor Survival .com

It has been a year since I first proposed that you ditch the petroleum jelly in favor of a more natural DIY salve. At the time, I named the salve I came up with “Plain Ole’ Salve”.

During the ensuing year, I have turned to this easily made salve over and over again. Not only is it a superb moisturizer, but because it is fragrance free, it has become the perfect base for all of my many essential oil concoctions.

Making your own Simple Salve […]

back pain gone

I just realized I did not share the final chapter in my herniated disc tale. I was successful in treating it without the 50/50 chance of being crippled for life that AMA treatments offered. As far as I can tell, my back is 100% of what it would have been if I’d never injured it. Here’s the tale I told at Ted Dunlap .net last summer.

logger back

It has been weeks since I had any back pain or sciatica symptoms. After just over a year of those two severely limiting my mobility and abilities, this is very good […]
